The book is a tool used by Law Enforcement during calls that may affect young children due to being exposed to trauma. Funding will primarily be used to pay for the cost of print, for books to be distributed to the Ada, OK Police Department.

Some Kids We Know
In 2023 a small expeditionary school in Buena Vista Colorado launched the "Some Kids We Know" project with the local Police Department. The idea behind the project was to develop a tool for officer's use with escalated children. Each patrol car was given the Some Kids We Know book which included crazy pictures of officers interacting in funny scenarios with local children, with engaging questions. When encountering a child in an upsetting situation, the officer could pull out the book and engage in conversation that was designed to distract and refocus the child. Also included were pages of helpful information for Autistic, hearing impaired, learning delayed and non-English speaking children. This project was created by students, adding an element of pride in helping children in their schools and community. Some Kids We Know also presented local officers in disarming and funny interaction with children, building positive rapport with local Law Enforcement.
Our Story
Gina's book was successfully used in Colorado in 2023. She would like to produce another book along this format to be distributed to the Ada, OK Police Department.
Funding will primarily be used to pay for cost of print. The Ada PD will provide photographer for Officers and Terry Bartlow will utilize students to assist with pics and content (with documented Permissions).

4. Project Components / Grades Involved (Soft Copy of original SKWK book delivered for teachers use as an example.)
a. Scenario Creation and pictures: Selected Classes will submit 2 crazy scenarios p/class. One student from each of the selected grades will be chosen, by teacher to be photographed. Creative Team (Gina/Kelly) will choose 10 scenarios.
- Hayes 2nd, Byng 4th, Latta 3rd
- Children will not be photographed full-faced, and no names will be published.
- School Districts will provide a district permission slip for student participation.
b. Crazy Questions: 5th grades at each school will participate.
- After pictures are edited and complete, 5th grades will receive a copy and 2 questions concerning each crazy picture will be crafted per class. All questions will be submitted to the Creative Team and 3 Crazy Questions per picture will be chosen.
c. Avatars / Thumbnails — 6th Grades (Creative Team Edit)
- The book will include 2 avatars representing students per/page. These are included to provide a "full faced" child on each page throughout the book. Teachers can use their discretion with students chosen to draw the Avatars.
- Avatars will need to demonstrate different actions: Pointing, Shocked face, Confused, Laughing
- The book will also include a Question-and-Answer page. We will include small thumbnail sketches representing each question. Teachers can use their discretion with students chosen to draw the thumbnails.
d. Question and Answer — Grades 1st–3rd
- Officers will arrange a visit and allow students to ask questions. The Police Department participants will synthesize the Q and A and choose the most common and/or most critical to be included in the book. (Thumbnails added)

6. Book Production
- Identify publisher: Mixbooks, Vista Print, Shutterfly, Snapfish etc.
- Establish cost per book; i.e. Vista Print $40.00 (30 pg.) is the least expensive.
- Identify volunteers to compile the book.
7. Presentation of Books
- A brief training will accompany book distribution.
8. Follow-Up
- Positive follow-up stories will be shared with: Schools, Law Enforcement, Building Hope Foundation
